Christen Harper returns to SI Swimsuit for 2023.“Once upon a time I looked at the images of Sports Illustrated and saw these women that were confident and sure of themselves and that’s what I wanted to be,” said the 2022 Co-Rookie of the Year winner while on location in Dominica with photographer Amanda Pratt. “I wanted to be here today to hopefully do that for another girl. I just want them to see these images and feel like they can do anything because they can.”

Chan is a true triple threat, having worked in the fashion industry as a writer, editor and model. While working as the fashion features editor at Glamour, the Toronto native focused on a plus-size fashion beat and designed a clothing collection with Lane Bryant. She is also the founder and CEO of Henning, a luxury womenswear brand that was recently acquired by Universal Standard. Chan now works as the company’s head of brand partnerships. This is her first appearance in the SI Swimsuit Issue.

Madisin Rian began modeling in 2008 and a decade later she became the face of Giorgio Armani Beauty. In 2017 she decided to break barriers and stereotypes in the modeling and fashion industries and shave her head.
“I think that black women are judged a lot for their hair and I just wanted to be free of all limitations and change the narrative,” she said while on set of her 2023 SI Swimsuit rookie shoot with James Macari in the Dominican Republic.
